Belconnen Community Men's Shed

Men helping men build a better community

Shed as it stands

 1.

Our bid for a grant from IMB has been successful. This means we will be getting approx. $6,500 for safety equipment. The funds will not be available immediately but once released to us we will be able to start purchasing things like:

·         Alarm system

·         First Aid Kit

·         Hearing Protection

·         Eye Protection

·         Defibrillator

·         Safety Training and more

We are limited to buying things we have listed on our funding bid. Dean has posted the full details on white board in the Shed.

2.       This is the first News I’ve posted while sitting in the Shed. So why am I here on a Tuesday?  I’m giving access to the Guys (Daniel and Mitch) from Airffective who are installing our reverse cycle air conditioners. So there are no more excuses for it being too cold/hot to come along.

3.

Bunnings have offered us a slot any Thursday or Friday to run BBQ’s out the front of the Belconnen shop.

Mark is looking for a volunteer to get this started and running. You won’t have to attend all the BBQ’s just get them organised.  Anyone interested should contact Mark at office@belconnenshed.com.au

4.       Mark has attended a meeting without local Govt last week, and they are committed to helping and supporting Men’s Shed in the ACT. They have put aside some funds for that purpose in 2015-2016 financial year. So their financial support is a way off yet, but they will provide support in any other way they can till then.

5.       Thor of Thor's Hammer has made contact and has a supply of second hand wood that he is willing to donate to the Shed if we can use it. This wood has had metal found in it that Thor doesn’t see as being economical to remove, but may be worthwhile for us on smaller projects. We are hoping to send a couple of people to check it all out once Gordon has returned from his fishing cruise.

6.       We are also looking for a volunteer to be our training officer/member. This doesn’t mean you have to do the training,  just track it and maybe organise some. You won’t have to do it alone you can have helpers/assistants. You also won’t be responsible if someone goes against the training. You are just there to make sure the training is scheduled and who has attended. If your interested please send Mark an email or talk to him Saturday Morning.

Now a couple of quick funnies to end with.

and for all those that think Coffee is the answer...
