WIN TV News Interview

Welcome back to your Shed.

Welcome to 2022. With the move into February, the shed is now operating on normal hours again. Masks are to be worn at all times til the end of February, and all members attending must be double vaccinated.

Over the next few weeks we are involved with updates to levelling the outside work areas, replacing the pavers with concrete. Shed members are encouraged to help whenever in attendance, particularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Your help is much appreciated.

Any new members from Jan 1 need only pay $30 for membership, which will last til June 30.

We need to comply with the current compliance rules set out by our Gov Officials and as such have a BCMS Covid Safety Plan that will be explained and enforced each time the shed opens.  To comply with the 1 person per 4sqm rule we are restricted to 15 men inside the shed and 10 men outside the shed which means the max per day at any one time is 25.

We are all required to use the Canberra Check in App that we are all so familiar with and to sign in using our own attendance recording system.

I suggest that to avoid disappointment and to prevent a rush of men wanting to be back in the shed on the first day we are open that you choose to attend on what would be your normal day at the Shed. This I believe will keep our numbers within the limits of the Covid Safety Plan.

All members are to bring and wear their own masks and to use the sanitiser provide on arrival and before eating or drinking. At this stage no food for morning tea will be provided so please bring you own.  Further requirements will be explained on the day.

Whilst all members are welcome we ask that if you are not yet fully vaccinated that you consider others and do not come to the shed until hitting the double vax status.  Also do not come to the shed if you have any flu or cold like symptoms.

Gordon Cooper

President BCMS

Shed Is Open (General Rules)

The shed is now open at the usual times, for new and existing members, with no limit to the number of members at any one time. The Duty Managers have discretion to adjust concurrent attendance levels at the Shed, based on numbers AND behaviour, eg., social distancing and safety, or even poor and cold weather reducing outdoor usage.

Please follow the existing Shed rules and also:

  • obey any directions of the Duty Manager.
  •  use the tablet to sign in and out;  this is essential in tracking should there be a need.
  • use the CBR App to sign in (only) as well.
  • if you are at all unwell, have any Covid-like symptoms or been in contact with anyone with these symptoms , please do not attend.
  • be social, but at the current recommended distancing while at the shed, especially at morning tea.
  • wash hands and use the hand sanitizers upon arrival, and for the sign in tablet.
  • clear all tools after your use  with the wipes and the spray sanitizer.
  • wipe taps, door handles etc, after touching.
  • Shed re-organisation is actively underway:  please help in finishing the new bench and in re-organising the shelves.

Our Committee will actively monitor and review numbers of members attending and any issues that may arise.

If you want to attend, but can’t, please contact us. Additional opening times might be considered, provided sufficient interest AND someone is available to take responsibility and manage the session.

The Belconnen Community Men’s Shed.
Our Shed opened in March 2014, new members and visitors are always welcome. The Shed is 15 by 9 metres, and has been purposely designed and built as a Men’s Shed. It is fully insulated, with a kitchen, air-conditioning, disabled access/toilet and is equipped with woodworking and metalworking tools. Its not just about the tools, so for those that just want to come for a chat or coffee/tea we have the kitchen and a great meeting table. Its a MEN’s SHED, not a work house, so come and enjoy yourself.
Listen to The Shed Wireless, in particular Season 2, Episode 10, which includes an interview with Gordon and Claudio.
