Joining

Becoming a member is simple, and you’re welcome to visit us before deciding whether membership is right for you.

Drop into the Shed during opening hours and speak with the Duty Officer. They will be happy to show you around, explain our activities, introduce you to members, point out the facilities available, and answer any questions you may have.

Our members are a friendly and welcoming group who value companionship, practical skills, lifelong learning and community involvement. Whether you are an experienced maker, keen to learn something new, or simply looking to meet people and get involved, you’ll find a supportive environment at Belconnen Community Men’s Shed.

If you decide to join, you will be asked to complete a membership application and pay the annual membership fee. We will then guide you through our Code of Conduct, workshop procedures and general Shed safety requirements.

Before using any tool or machine, members receive appropriate instruction and accreditation to help ensure that everyone can work safely and confidently.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Shed.

Our Members

Belconnen Community Men’s Shed was established as a place where men can come together, share skills, work on projects, build friendships and support their wellbeing.

Like many Men’s Sheds across Australia, one of our primary purposes is to provide opportunities for men to connect with others in a welcoming and supportive environment. Many men find it easier to build friendships and support networks while working alongside others on practical activities. The Shed provides a place where those connections can develop naturally.

While supporting men’s wellbeing remains at the heart of what we do, we recognise that the benefits of learning, creating, volunteering and social connection can be enjoyed more broadly. To help balance these objectives, women are welcome to participate in Saturday afternoon sessions, providing access to the Shed’s facilities, tools, expertise and community activities.

This approach allows us to maintain the men’s wellbeing focus that underpins the Men’s Shed movement while also sharing the benefits of our facilities and activities with the wider community.

Our goal is not to exclude people, but to preserve the supportive environment that many of our members value while ensuring that the skills, facilities and community benefits of the Shed can be shared as widely as possible.

We also welcome members who attend with an assistant, support worker or carer. If this applies to you, both you and your support person are warmly welcome at the Shed.

Age Requirement

For safety, insurance, and supervision reasons, membership of the Shed is limited to persons aged 18 years and over.

Many activities undertaken at the Shed involve the use of workshop machinery, power tools and specialised equipment that require appropriate training, accreditation and safe work practices. Restricting membership to over 18s helps ensure that the Shed can provide a safe and responsible environment for all members.
